History retention & cleanup
Control how long clipboard items are kept and run manual cleanup.
Manage how long ClipaX keeps clipboard items and free disk space by removing expired entries on demand.
Retention presets
Open Settings → History.

| 1 day | Items older than one day may be removed on cleanup |
| 1 week | Weekly horizon |
| 1 month | Default-friendly for many users |
| 1 year | Long archive |
| Forever | No automatic age-based deletion |
Favorites, categories, and tags follow product rules shown in the UI; read the note under the retention control in Settings.
Manual cleanup
Use the cleanup control (icon/button) on the History settings card to delete items that already exceed your retention window.
Steps
- Set the retention preset you want.
- Click the cleanup action next to retention.
- Wait for the toast — it reports how many rows were removed.
If retention is Forever, cleanup reports that nothing was deleted by age.
Cleanup affects local database only; encrypted blobs already uploaded to Cloud Sync are not automatically removed from your cloud provider by this button alone.
Automatic vs manual
- Changing retention does not always delete immediately — run cleanup to apply aggressively after shortening the window.
- Capture & history explains when new items arrive.
Tips
- Shorten retention before handing off a shared computer.
- Pair with Cloud Sync cache if local disk is tight and sync is enabled.
